Geography of Naru

Naru is a rim planet on the edge of an arm of the spiral galaxy Arché’on. Thus the northern hemisphere has very many stars visible, and the southern hemisphere has only a few.

There are two moons, the red, which is smallest and furthest away from Naru has a cycle of 72 days, the silver, more like our own moon, has a cycle of 27 days. Hence months are divided into three weeks of nine days each.

The Alliance start the year on the first day of spring, the Quaren on the shortest day of the year, the Year-turning, when they have a great feast.

Avenya is in the southern hemisphere, thus north is hot and south is cold. The equator runs just above the land mass. The most northerly city is Kaeyama, facing west on the topmost tip of the continent.

There were traditionally nine cities great cities of Avenyan plains. The tides of war and power moved them one way and another, but generally there were at least seven extant, and no more than eleven. By the time of the House of Abard there were only four great Quaren cities and the other five which had to be added to make the sum were Mara-set and Mara-lei, by then in Alliance hands, Elen and the Grey Halls, which had never been in Quaren hands and the city of Ebrinen, built by Derany City Founder. But however those tides moved, Banéros the Beautiful, founded by Ya Pheren, still stood. Great queen of the plains, she strode the confluence of the three major rivers of Avenya, the Randa, Telga and Lee’ma Ra and held the trade of all Avenya in the palm of her hand.
